What a year for our Graz cyclist Franz-Josef Lässer!
He is collecting medals, and his favorites are the gold ones. A year after his world championship title, Franz-Josef Lässer secured the European championship title in the individual time trial at the Paracycling European Championships in Maniago in Friuli, not far from the home border, wearing the rainbow jersey of the world champion. An absolute class of his own, even though the preparation went anything but ideally. “I was sick repeatedly throughout the season, even just before the European Championships. But somehow I had a clear head and just wanted to make the best of it,” said the young Styrian from the Bikeklub GIANT Stattegg and the WSA professional cycling team Graz.
In the end, Lässer triumphed over the Frenchman Elliot Pierre and the Paralympics winner Daniel Abraham from the Netherlands. Imagine, after 27.9 kilometers, our Austrian almost caught up with the Dutchman! Two days later, unfortunately, Franz-Josef had to withdraw from the road race as he was still unwell. But that’s no reason to be downcast, because now comes the real, big highlight of the season!
On August 6, Franz-Josef Lässer will attempt to break the hour world record on the cycling track in Grenchen, Switzerland! It will be a spectacle for which we will all keep our fingers crossed. It is simply incredible what our guys from Graz and Styria can achieve!
